Safeguarding Policies
July 2025
1. Safeguarding Children Policy
FoFSP is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children using Fortune Street Park in Islington South. We aim to create a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for children and families across all our activities and events.
Our Commitment
We will act in the best interests of children at all times.
We have zero tolerance for abuse or neglect of any kind.
All FoFSP trustees, volunteers and activity organisers are made aware of this policy and understand their role in safeguarding.
Key Safeguarding Measures
A designated Safeguarding Officer is appointed by FoFSP.
All structured children’s activities require parental/carer consent.
Event organisers must carry out risk assessments with safeguarding in mind.
Volunteers or facilitators engaging directly with children must be appropriately vetted, including enhanced DBS checks where relevant.
Volunteers should not be alone with a child or initiate one-to-one contact.
Recognising and Reporting Concerns
Signs of abuse (physical, emotional, sexual, or neglect) will always be taken seriously. If a child is in danger or at risk:
Call 999 in emergencies
Report concerns to our Safeguarding Officer or directly to Islington Children’s Services:
📞 020 7527 7400
All safeguarding concerns must be recorded clearly and shared confidentially with the appropriate authorities.
2. Safeguarding Adults Policy
FoFSP believes every adult, especially those who may be at risk, has the right to feel safe and respected in Fortune Street Park. We are committed to preventing and responding to abuse, harm, and neglect of vulnerable adults.
Who Is an 'Adult at Risk'?
An adult aged 18+ who may be unable to protect themselves from harm due to disability, age, illness, mental health conditions or other factors.
Our Commitment
We promote dignity, respect, inclusion and independence.
Everyone involved in FoFSP’s activities is expected to understand and support safeguarding principles.
We will listen, take action, and respect confidentiality while sharing concerns responsibly.
Types of Abuse
Abuse may include physical harm, emotional abuse, financial exploitation, sexual abuse, neglect, discrimination, or institutional harm.
Responding to Concerns
Concerns should be reported to our Safeguarding Officer or, where necessary, directly to Islington Adult Social Services:
📞020 7527 2299
In an emergency or if someone is in immediate danger: call 999
All safeguarding incidents must be logged clearly and shared only with appropriate authorities.
Consent and Capacity
Adults are supported to make their own choices wherever possible. Information will not be shared without consent unless there is a legal obligation or serious safety concern.
